About the Congressman:
Robert Smith is a Democrat from Australia, representing the Commonwealth in Virtual Congress.
Platform and Policy
1. What would be your first priority as President?
Robert Smith: We shall to see our economy thrive through actions not words, when we look at our past we see a history of instability with our own presidents, all people need is a president that will be there and for them not just on a campaign poster. My first priority would be to engage in helpful economic activity for our own sake. We have seen great cultural and societal gain now let’s see that for our economy. We should ask for that of our presidents at the very least.
2. What is your position on the agendas of former President CollinMatthew and current President Starro?
RS: We should look at it, what have they achieved in that time? We have achieved a many great things but of those, how many were the actions of congress with a rubber stamp? It was this great congress that caused the improvement of this country, what will change under anther[sic] term of Starro? Anther term of rubber stamp, What does “I strongly believe in bipartisanship.” from [S]ean mean? We have a democratic congress. We need policy that would strongly bolster our country not our words and thoughts.
3. What are your views on healthcare?
RS: It needs reform, we can see the terrible state of our healthcare system if we are the bellow[sic] most of the western world something is wrong and the democrats will do something about it, we need a universal system, and we us[sic] democrats and republicans must stop denying to themselves the true facts of this. All people should get what they deserve, our quality of care for those who cannot afford it is not acceptable or fine as republicans would say. The democratic party and I shall fix this.
4. How would you summarize your approach to social equality (women’s rights and LGBT rights etc.)?
RS: This is something I feel very strongly about, I believe that that rights of people are one of the strongest part of this nation. I agree strongly with my fellow democrats[‘] bills and submissions. Such as ending Conversion [therapy]. They have done well to eliminate discrimination and install the rights of the citizen. I wish to continue the rights that congress continues to pass, to make us all gain life, liberty and happiness. I will expand Women’s, LGBT and racial rights throw[sic] executive orders and other means, such to destroy discrimination in this country. We can do better.
5.Elaborate on your foreign policy philosophy
RS: One cannot underestimate the level that [U]nited [S]tates foreign policy, the [U]ntied[sic] [S]tates intervention in Iraq has achieved nothing but war and death we cannot allow such a policy to continue with quick withdrawal and a mission accomplished. As such America[‘s] global influence should be used as a caution for any tyrants throughout the world. America would be the global bank to help fund the world[‘s] economy. Funding would be given to nations that fare well in democratic values, and not to those who break human rights and liberties. Our driver of change shouldn’t be war but slow economic intervention.
6. What do you view as an issue that isn’t discussed enough?
RS: Global warming is being spoken about now, it’s an improvement, but an improvement isn’t enough we need more then just an improvement for us to avoid the consequences of the world warming. Global warming is being treated as a second tier issue it is the only issue that effects[sic] the entire planet every person, every place, every age, every identity. Global warming effects[sic] us. It should be an extremely high priority for any nation, and it will be when it is too late. We are a nation that has one of the highest per capita emissions rates, this is not an issue we can ignore or continue to treat as second tier.
7. What is an issue you would not compromise on?
RS: I could not compromise on the issue of on the issues of conversion [therapy] and other such bigoted ideas that have been allowed to continue. Such things no person with morals could compromise on.
Campaign
1. Why do you think you would make a better President than President Starro?
RS: Because I would be active and engaged with the community, rather then just an occasional bill signing or a comment. We need a president that would be speaking to the great people in congress to help pass bills. Doing the bare minimum isn’t what we need out of a president, we need 110%.
2. How do you plan on beating the other candidates?
RS: Good ideas not bad words, we can’t keep thinking about campaigns in promotional videos and slogans, anyone can do that we need to think in common sense. How would you like to see as president?[sic]
3. What is your campaign slogan?
RS: “more then words, more then a promise”.
4. Some of your opponents in the primary have already released advertisement, what will be your campaign’s media strategy?
RS: To talk to people and see what they think, as a party we can’t pretend that one man knows best. A [P]resident is more then just a name and a promised one issue campaign. Let’s make a choice not just picking advertisements over other advertisements or slogans, if you want to know who to vote for ask them don’t be dependant[sic] on marketing, and don’t let them then tell you otherwise.
5. How do you plan on standing out in the debates?
RS: By doing it for you not me, a debate is about policy so I will make it about policy. If you wish to stand out you have to understand what people want from a debate. Understanding is the key and that’s something many campaigners don’t understand.
6. If you had to summarize what your campaign stands for in one word, what would that be?
RS: People you don’t pick the people the people pick you, so listen to them.
7. Name one quality you admire about your opponents or their campaigns.
RS: There[sic] determined something that I can see as a positive, if you wish to succeed you must be willing to be determined to do so.
Personal
1. Why do you think you should be President?
RS: Im[sic] active and Im[sic] listening to people, I think both my candidates[sic] lack that and we need to see that those qualities are above any campaigning. If your[sic] too focused on yourself your[sic] going to get nothing done, you need to be aware of that.
2. How would you describe yourself politically?
RS: Moderately Centrist Economically and Fairly Progressive [Socially].
3. What are you doing currently besides Congress?
RS: School.
4. What do you like to do for fun?
RS: History and politics.
5. What is your favorite book?
RS: I don’t have one.
6. Who are your political heroes? (can be fictional characters)
RS: Bob Hawke.
7. What item can you not live without?
RS: Water.
Anything else you want to say before the interview is finished?
RS: Good luck to all candidates.
