A Look at the District 1 Senate Race

Election season started off yesterday with a bang. We’ve seen many candidates officially announce their candidacies for the Presidency / Vice Presidency and the Senate. Today, however, The Congressional Report will be taking a look at the District 1 Senate race.

As of the publication of this article, three candidates have officially announced their candidacies for District 1 Senate via the Federal Election Commission. In this article, we will be going over the three candidates via a brief description of each candidate.

The first candidate to announce was Representative David Miller. A Democrat, he will be facing off against another challenger in a primary, who we will go over next. Not much has been seen from Congressman Miller in terms of legislation, however he does appear to be relatively active on the server, which is a plus. (Editor’s Note: Mr. Miller has since dropped out for unknown reasons)

The next candidate is Representative Amidala. Also a Democrat, she will be the one facing off against Congressman Miller in the Dem primary. A former Libertarian and Socialist, it is unknown if her previous party affiliations will have an effect on primary voters’ choice. However, she does hold an edge over Mr. Miller, as she has already released a campaign platform, something that Mr. Miller has yet to do to TCR’s knowledge.

The third and last candidate to announce was Senator Schlorp. He is the incumbent of the seat and a longtime Senator and member of the server. As a prominent and long-serving member of the Libertarian Party, he is very popular among Libertarian voters. Mr. Schlorp definitely holds the most powerful advantage over the other candidates — incumbency. Voters can see firsthand what he has done in office, which is a huge bonus, especially considering Mr. Schlorp’s popularity among members of the Virtual Congress community. The Senator is expected to sweep the LP vote. He will likely capture the majority of the Republican vote as well, due to the fact that no Republican candidates have announced.

That concludes the list of candidates that have officially announced so far. TCR would like to note that other candidates may have announced their candidacies. For example, Representative McLaurin stated that he is running for the D1 seat in the Democratic Party server. However, he has not registered his candidacy via the FEC, which is why he was not included in this list. TCR only reports on candidates that have registered themselves, in order to avoid any confusion among potential voters and to deliver the most accurate information to the public.
