Lukas Gideon is the current Vice President of the United States and the Republican Nominee for President. He previously served as a Senator, a Justice, and as Chief of Staff.
Political
1. What influences your policy views the most?
Lukas: I would say that VC influences my political views the most. Before VC I wasn’t as in tune into politics as I am now, and I’m glad to have had this experience. It has also changed my social views a lot since I first joined in February. In turn, I have been paying more attention to current events and politics and I must say that this has made me more invested in wanting to help our generation and for those to come.
2. How would you summarize your approach to social issues such as LGBTQ rights, abortion and capital punishment?
Lu: I am a big supporter of LGBTQ and minority rights. As a big fan of studying constitutional and civil law, as well as read and study Supreme Court decisions in my free time, I am a big supporter and fan of Supreme Court decisions such as Obergefell v. Hodges, Bostock v. Clayton County, Brown v. Board of Education, Griswold v. Connecticut, United States v. Virginia Military Institute, and Reed v. Reed, among others. I am very center when it comes to abortion, while I believe that in cases of rape, incest, and under age pregnancies that a woman should have access to abortion, in all other cases when the woman’s life is not threatened a baby’s life should take priority. I am of the believer that capital punishment should only be reserved for high crimes such as treason and mass murder or genocide.
3. What do you see as the biggest difference between you and your opponent?
Lu: I believe that my biggest difference between myself and Mr. Lilburne is my overall experience in all three branches of government. While Mr. Lilburne pointed out in his interview that I have only served as VP and chief of staff in the executive and that he has held more positions in the executive, I have served in many more positions in congress and the judicial than he has. I think my biggest strength over Mr. Lilburne is my understanding of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and subsequent amendments, as well as my experience in party and congressional leadership.
4. What do you see as the issue most neglected by previous Presidents on VC?
Lu: I would say that the issue most neglected by previous presidents on VC is agriculture and the American farmer. These people are who feed our country and make sure that we do not go into a famine or a lack of food. As we have seen recently, this neglect has turned into a terrible outbreak in the Midwest and Great Plains. As president I will work with the USDA and the Department of Interior to make sure that our breadbasket of America is strong and that these farmers do not lose their farms, homes, and livelihoods. As if the farms and crops are in trouble, the rest of America is.
5. What is your favorite piece of legislation or executive action taken on VC and why?
Lu: I would say that my favorite executive order in VC was Executive Order #48 proposed by former President James. This EO gave immunity to “dreamers” from deportation from our country and I believe that this is an important issue and I applaud Mr. James for writing and carrying out this action.
Personal
1. What motivated you to join VC originally and what has kept you engaged?
Lu: I would say the community and friends I made here. After joining in February and really becoming active in March, I met many people here who I consider very good friends, including some best friends. I am able to be myself here, and I am able to discuss my personal issues and disabilities with my friends here without judgement. It is truly an amazing place to be apart of and I’m glad throughout that I’ve had good friends and people to share the experience with.
2. What is your favorite book?
Lu: My favorite book is a pretty common and generic one, and that is 1984. While I haven’t read it recently, it is truly a masterpiece and is still relevant to this day, 70+ years later. George Orwell is one of my favorite authors and I enjoy many other of his works.
3. What is your go-to movie or TV series?
Lu: Oh man. Well I watch lots of different types of tv shows and movies, but I have to say that my favorite tv show is probably parks and recreation. I love all the characters and it is one of the better sitcoms and comedies of the 2000s.
4. How would you describe yourself politically?
Lu: I would describe myself as a “libertarian capitalist”. I believe in liberty, justice, and equality under law for all. In these liberties and freedoms has to include economic freedom. One can only be truly free if they are allowed to trade freely. In the words of Ron Swanson, “would you like to buy some apples? Yes I would! That’s how easy it should be to start a business and succeed in the country!” While i still believe that the government still needs to step in when monopolies form and when the economy crashes, with my belief of achieve totally liberty and freedom, this has to include a relatively free market.
5. What is your running mate’s best quality?
Lu: Battles best quality is definitely his commitment and his intelligence. He was Secretary of Security for what seemed like 20 years (which it prolly was in sim lol), and he knows what’s best for our criminal justice and defense policy for this country. He is also a leader, as seen in his work as LNC vice chair and President Pro Tempore. He is committed to serving the American people and is ready to make that next step to the Vice Presidency.
Individual
1. You have served almost a full term as Vice President to President Halpert, what are the biggest takeaways you have being a heartbeat away from the presidency?
Lu: I have learned and observed what it truly takes to be the most powerful man not even in the United States, but in the World as well. Ian has been a great mentor and a joy to work with during our administration, and I’m so glad I was able to have this experience. My greatest takeaways from this term has been how to be a leader and how to work night and day for the American people. Ian and I discuss every day on the days agenda and our responses to crises and other happenings, and I believe that this clarity and communication has benefited the American people. Being the President of the United States, you have to be committed to serve the American people and make sure that they know what is going on in your administration and what you are doing to work for the American people.
2. Your opponent in this race is an adult. Do you think age dynamics exist on VC and if so in what ways?
Lu: I do not believe that age dynamics exist in VC, as I have worked throughout my time here on VC with adults. A few examples are when I was hulls chief of staff, when I was an Associate Justice when S4L was Chief Justice, and an out of sim example when I was an admin when Mike and s4l co-owned the server. I treat everyone the same. Whether you are 13 or you are 21, in my eyes you are treated as a human being, and unless you say otherwise I feel alright discussing deeper issues with adults.
3. You co-host the GHN podcast, how do you feel your media experience has impacted your political life and how would GHN be impacted if you were to win the election?
Lu: My media experience on VC has stretched almost 6 months now, dating back to April 15th when we began these podcasts and live streams. Hull and myself pride ourselves on our work and the fun times we’ve had on the pbn and ghn podcasts. Pbn/Ghn has not really impacted my political life in VC, more of my out of sim life being able to deliver this amazing broadcast to the people of VC to sit back and enjoy. I do not exactly know how GHN would be impacted if I win, as I haven’t thought that far ahead, as I still have to win an election.
4. You have been on the server for quite some time and have seen a lot of ups and downs. What have been your favorite moments on VC?
Lu: I will break my favorite moments of VC down to three instances:
- When I was confirmed as an Associate Justice. Law is one of my most inspiring interests and is one of my favorite as well. Being confirmed to the highest court in the land unanimously by the United States Senate was an amazing feeling and experience and being able to serve with such intelligent jurists and attorneys like sysadmin, Soro, Richard, and S4L among others.
- Being brought onto the admin team. Honestly, even though I’ve held almost every position in VC in my time, admin has been my favorite, even though it was an out of sim position. For the just over 2 months I was admin before I had to leave to become Vice President, I had an enjoyable experience making VC what it is with many different people helping me out. Fellow admins like bo, sysadmin, James, Dillinger, S4L, Thunderwood, Mike, and the admin I left the server with Jacob, we all worked with the best interests of the server and the community in mind.
- Finally, becoming VP was another great and exciting moment in my time in VC. Seeing as this is my highest elected position in VC, and the second most powerful, I am forever grateful to be apart of the Ian administration and campaign.
5. What is your biggest concern regarding VC right now?
Lu: Hm, I don’t really have any concerns atm.
