VP Nomination

Earlier this month then President Carter (R) vacated the presidency making Vice-President Halpert the current President. President Ian Halpert nominated Secretary of Defense Mark to be his Vice President for the remainder of the term.

The nomination hearing was scheduled for this evening, which it occurred. Here’s some keep notes of the hearing:

Rep. Edmonds: Thank you Mr. Speaker. Hello Mr. Secretary, my question is two-fold: What are your views on food assistance programs? Also, would you seek to cut or expand said programs which help so many working class families?

Honorable Mark: Thank you for the Question Congressman. And yes this is a important issue for many families across America. I think with the recent Coronavirus epidemic it really exposed how fragile the food situation is for many families. According to data by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. During that time a whopping 24 million reported that their household sometimes or often didn’t have enough to eat in the last seven days.

In a country as prosperous as our it is clear that we need to rise to the occasion to ensure that no child goes hungry in America. With that being said the best way to see what can be done in the future is to examine the progress we have already made recently. Former President Ricca during his time in Congress authored the Food Bank Act. Which essentially in one fell swoop helped address two problems we have in America. Food waste. And starvation. In the Food Bank act we ensured that excess food that could not be sold do to lack of profits or other reasons. Instead of being wasted. Would be redistributed to those who need it most.

As Vice President I would champion efforts to reach out to those Americans who are suffering from nutrition related problems. Building off of the ideas of the Food Bank Act. We could partner local farms with schools to allow Farmers to sell excess produce directly while also allowing Children to be acquainted to fresh produce at a early age.
