Very recently, a new political party was accepted by the FEC. This party advocates for the right to self defense, opposes forced military service, and pushes for a reduced copyright length. This new party is the Pirate Party, approved as the fifth main party in Congress.
Unlike the Constitution Party, which disbanded some time ago and was fairly unpopular, some big names have officially joined the Pirates, including former president Lilburne, as well as some rising politicians such as State Legislator Isaacman-Cheney.
While the Pirate Party is still in its infancy, it has had noticeable amounts of support, and no major amounts of criticism have been made against it so far. But in order to inform Americans about this new party, we sat down with the first Chair of the party, Mr. Cheney-Morales.
(Some answers were edited minimally for clarity and brevity.)
The Congressional Report: Welcome to the TCR Interview!
Cheney: Good to be here, Daniel.
TCR: Why was the Pirate Party founded?
Cheney: The Pirate Party was founded on the principles of the Pirate wheel, which I’ll proceed to explain in the next question. The Pirate Party was founded to be a special big tent alternative to the other 4 main parties that haven’t done a single thing for America. Just as it’s our 2nd day, we’re getting the ball rolling, we are working with Representatives of different parties to pass our agenda and we have been teaming up with a certain Senator, we are focused on results here.
TCR: What does the Pirate Party stand for/advocate?
Cheney:
I believe our policy is matched up with the international Pirate Wheel that is followed by many other PPUSA branches. In Congress, we will stop the shenanigans and will fight for results based legislation that is transparent and clear to read. But I’d like to touch on the important issues such as healthcare. States must ensure that no persons face barriers in accessing their right to health including the access to information about health and health services, we need to reduce parents for medicines or at least avoid administrative prolongation of patents. On the economy, we back a system such as Jack Reagan’s America Works and if implemented properly, it could help solve the issue of welfare and bring long term success to America. We will be sure to work with him on it.
TCR: What do you plan to do as the Party’s first Chair?
Cheney: I am obviously the first Chair of the Party but I’m actually not running for Chairman, instead I support Mira Han for Chairman and I’m confident she will get the ground running and increase volunteer and recruitment efforts. To go more in specific, she has said she will lay the groundwork for the Party by ensuring our membership has the ability to succeed in further races by running solid campaigns.
TCR: Why should people be interested in joining the Pirate Party?
Cheney: We stand for and want to work toward reformation of intellectual property laws, we want crystal clear governmental transparency, and protection of privacy and your civil liberties. We strive for evidence-based policies and legislation that’s clear and on an evidence basis, while working against corporate control over us, the people. We believe that people, not corporations, come first always. I encourage you to join today because America truly depends on it.
