About the former President:
CollinMatthew is the owner of Virtual Congress and serves as one of its Top Admins. He served as President of Virtual Congress from December 12th, 2019 to January 22nd, 2020. Collin is a Democrat from Indiana.
So, it has been 11 days since you resigned from the presidency, what are you doing now and have you gotten used to not being the President yet?
CollinMatthew: I plan on updating the website and managing the elections. I am also focused on improving the trust between the admins and the rest of the server.
Today, I made a rule that all admins or moderators need to come to me before banning anyone or making any major changes. I would then alert the server on any changes with an appropriate amount of time before it happens.
As you have observed the Feb 2020 election so far, what are your impressions of the campaigns and the candidates?
CM: I love the creativity and activity that the candidates are pushing. A lot of the campaign advertisements have been really interesting. I kind of wish I thought of some of things that Sean and Starro have been posting lol. I think both parties have good candidates. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.
Looking back on your Presidency, are you happy with what you have accomplished and what would you have done differently?
CM: I am really proud of my time as President. We accomplished a lot of things with healthcare, labor, and climate. I also had a lot of great cabinet members that really cared about their role and this server. I think picking you as Chief of Staff (Interviewer’s note: I was CollinMatthew’s Chief of Staff and transitioned over to President Starro after Collin’s resignation) was one of my best decisions. We also had a bipartisan administration which I thought was important to have.
The only regret that I have was after I resigned. I wish I was here when we started declining in activity. I wasn’t [P]resident but I felt like I could have helped by contributing more. I have worked hard on this server in the last 2 months that I needed a break but it wasn’t worth coming back seeing the server in decline.
As the owner and co-founder of Virtual Congress, are you happy with the direction the server is taking?
CM: I am optimistic and see good signs of a change. I will be working with the server staff and the new administration on this. We are developing new ideas like the #news channel that lets people create scenarios that the government will respond to.
I also still want a foreign policy aspect to this server. It has been difficult because a lot of other model governments are not as active or committed like we are. I take that as a good sign for us but I really want to create that system.
Anything you want to say before the interview is finished?
CM: Thank you for the interview. Virtual Congress is something that I care a lot about. We have a lot of good potential leaders running for [P]resident and I wish them all luck in the election. I want to remind them stay civil with each other. As a leader, you are seen as an example of how people should act in this server. I think they will and hope everyone enjoys the debates coming up.
