Only a short while ago Virtual Congress saw the culmination of a months-long struggle against the administrative, more specifically Don. This event later became known as the March Revolution. The government shutdown and Administrators resigned in protest. After several tumultuous hours, Don was banned and a new era began.

But the momentary peace and prosperity of the server as well as the success of the rebellion should not lead the esteemed members of Virtual Congress to forget the lessons of the past. A rogue Administrator who did not follow his colleagues’ advice, the constitution or the people’s wishes is not a danger forever banished. Vigilance is needed to keep our server free and peaceful, to ensure an even brighter future. Decisions made that affect the server should be made through its democratic institutions, the Administrative should remain in dialogue with each other as well as the general members. Not forgotten should be the power of the people in the face of adversity.

As Virtual Congress’ resident historian, I look to the past to learn about the future, to infer the possibilities before us. From the 3 months’ worth of experiences on this server, as well as study of its predecessors, community, accountability and a balance of powers have proven to be the strongest indicators of longevity and success. A community that cares about one another. Accountability in all positions of power. A balance between the leaders of the different branches, from the executive to the legislative to the administrative. More than anything else, this lesson rings true: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” The good people of Virtual Congress shall not let that fate arise, keeping their convictions firm and their mind watchful. We shall not become complacent after the revolution.
