About the Congressman:
Antonio is a Republican representing Maine in Virtual Congress.
(Editor’s note: Antonio has since dropped out of the Presidential debate)
Personal
1. Why do you think you should be President?
Antonio: I know I would be a good [P]resident because I feel I have great leadership and I strive for unity in both parties, I’m a very determined person and when I feel things need to get done I get them done.
2. How would you describe yourself politically?
A: I would consider myself a centrist or a mild conservative, I have views on both sides but I side more with the right.
3. What are you doing currently besides Congress?
A: I’m really just in school at the moment. And outside of school I do a workout program right after on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
4. What do you like to do for fun?
A: I play lots of PlayStation, and I watch a lot of sports. And in the season I play American Football.
5. What is your favorite book?
A: I’m not a very big reader, [b]ut my [f]avorite book is probably Home Team by a NFL coach, Sean Payton.
6. Who are your political heroes (can be fictional characters)
A: Either Ronald Reagan Or MLK.
7. What item can you not live without?
A: Hmm, I guess my phone. I wouldn’t say I couldn’t live without it but that’s really my only way of contacting other people outside of my town.
Platform and Policy
1. What would be your first priority as President?
A: It would have to depend what happens in the upcoming days I guess. One of the things I don’t like is how the [P]resident has to sign off a bill. But immediately I would be open to suggestions or constructive criticism.
2. What is your position on the agendas of former President CollinMatthew and current President Starro?
A: I feel that our previous [P]resident made too many executive orders that he didn’t entirely think through that I’m going to try to fix. And [S]tarro has been doing fine.
3. What are your views on healthcare?
A: I think everyone should get the same quality of healthcare but I don’t believe in universal healthcare, I just think it should be more affordable. Obviously as [P]resident I would work towards that.
4. How would you summarize your approach to social equality (women’s rights and LGBT rights etc.)?
A: We need to work towards equality not supremacy. Instead of trying to make one group better than the other we need to work towards more acceptance and equality.
5. Elaborate on your foreign policy philosophy
A: I feel we have to work more with other countries and avoid conflict at all costs. We have to be more cooperative.
6. What do you view as an issue that isn’t discussed enough?
A: The hatred to this country from our own people. Obviously they have their right to like it or not. But if we want to stay united we need to get people to accept this country
7. What is an issue you would not compromise on?
A: I think I can compromise with anything, but I wouldn’t give up my ideals to reach one.
Campaign
1. Why do you think you would make a better President than President Starro?
A: I work across the aisle more. I want to appeal to both parties.
2. How do you plan on beating the other candidates?
A: Just work harder I guess. Be more determined.
3. What is your campaign slogan?
A: I haven’t came up with a good one yet but “Antonio, Working together for a better future”.
4. Some of your opponents in the primary have already released advertisement, what will be your campaign’s media strategy?
A: I’m not sure. I’m still working on that.
5. How do you plan on standing out in the debates?
A: Just speak the truth. I want to sound appealing and be straight forward.
6. If you had to summarize what your campaign stands for in one word, what would that be?
A: Unity.
7. Name one quality you admire about your opponents or their campaigns.
A: I like how they all have determination and confidence in the upcoming election. They’re all very intelligent individuals and it’s an honor working with them.
Anything else you want to say before the interview is finished?
A: That is all.
